Agricultural Development Plan Initiative 2025 Kicks Off in Puri on May 29; Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Communicate with Farmers in 20 States
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is set to launch the nationwide campaign, Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, in Puri, Odisha, on May 29, 2025. This campaign, designed specifically for the upcoming Kharif season, is a significant contribution to the goal of Viksit Bharat-2047.
The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan aims to integrate traditional Indian agricultural knowledge with modern scientific approaches, fostering a holistic base for improving farming practices. The campaign will educate farmers about modern agricultural technologies tailored to regional crop requirements, promoting farmer-led innovation and knowledge sharing across regions.
Over 2,170 dedicated teams, supported by all 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), 113 ICAR institutes, and state-level departments of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries, will be deployed for the campaign. The initiative will reach farmers through village-level outreach by agricultural experts, lasting for 15 days.
The campaign emphasizes the effective use of Soil Health Cards for better crop planning and fertilizer application. It also aims to enhance farmer awareness and adoption of advanced agricultural technologies by directly connecting scientists and experts with farming communities.
The broader goals of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan include boosting production and productivity of key crops such as soybean, groundnut, mustard, sesame, chickpea, lentils, urad, and arhar. The campaign will also support ongoing national missions like the National Mission on Natural Farming to ensure sustainable agriculture that safeguards both farmer livelihoods and ecological health for future generations.
Minister Chouhan will travel across nearly 20 states during the campaign, visiting key agricultural states beyond Odisha, including Jammu, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and several others. The campaign will cover more than 700 districts and 65,000 villages, reaching approximately 1.5 crore farmers.
The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is a significant step toward the government's vision of "Lab to Land" and building a developed India through modern and progressive agriculture. It strives to build a sustainable and self-reliant farming ecosystem, establishing direct communication between policymakers, scientists, and farmers. The campaign will also focus on government schemes and subsidies available to farmers.
Moreover, the campaign will collect grassroots-level feedback to better align agricultural research with on-ground realities. This initiative marks a significant effort by the government to move agricultural technology from laboratory research directly to farmer fields, ensuring that innovations benefit the farming sector holistically, promoting food security and sustainable development in Indian agriculture.
- The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan will coordinate traditional Indian agricultural wisdom with contemporary scientific practices, contributing to the broader scope of policy-and-legislation focused on farming improvements.
- As part of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, Minister Chouhan will address various states, emphasizing the importance of politics in shaping agricultural reforms and the role of general-news media in disseminating crucial information about the campaign to reach farmers nationwide.
