Agreement Stipulates 60-day Peace Pause, Delivers Humanitarian Aid, and Addresses Detainees

The ongoing negotiations between Israel and Hamas involve a proposed 60-day ceasefire for the Gaza Strip, which includes several significant components.

At the heart of the agreement is the release of hostages. Hamas is set to hand over **10 living and 18 dead hostages** to Israel, in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners currently detained in Israeli facilities. The exact number of prisoners to be released has not been specified yet.

In terms of military actions, Israeli troops would withdraw to a buffer zone along Gaza's borders with Israel and Egypt. This withdrawal, however, does not guarantee a permanent end to the conflict, as Hamas has demanded. Instead, negotiations for a permanent ceasefire are planned to take place during the 60-day truce.

Humanitarian aid is another crucial aspect of the proposal. Significant amounts of aid would be brought into Gaza, distributed by United Nations agencies and the Palestinian Red Crescent. There is uncertainty over the role of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, an American group currently distributing food aid, with Israel seeking to replace the UN-coordinated system.

The United States, under President Donald Trump, will play a pivotal role in the agreement's implementation. Trump would personally guarantee Israel's adherence to halting military operations during the ceasefire and would personally announce the ceasefire agreement. This personal guarantee aims to reassure Hamas that Israel would not resume fighting unilaterally, as occurred during a previous ceasefire in March 2025 when talks stalled.

The proposed 60-day ceasefire would allow for the entry of "urgent" humanitarian aid into Gaza, aimed at repairing vital infrastructure such as water supply, electricity, and health centers. If negotiations fail within the 60-day period, the temporary ceasefire may be extended.

Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Envoy for the Middle East, will lead the negotiations on the ground. If successful, the negotiations aim to achieve a permanent truce and long-term security agreements within the Gaza Strip. The truce document will serve as the basis for negotiations between Israel and Hamas, scheduled for Sunday in Doha, Qatar.

Data from the Ministry of Health of the Hamas government in Gaza reveals that over 132,000 Palestinians have been injured in Israeli attacks since the beginning of the war, and more than 57,300 Palestinians have died in the Gaza Strip since the war's commencement. These figures underscore the urgency of the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the need for a lasting solution to the ongoing conflict.

1.In the midst of this tense political scenario, discussions regarding potential permanent solutions to the war-and-conflicts between Israel and Hamas continue, with the United States playing a significant role in the negotiations.

  1. The ongoing negotiations also involve general-news such as the release of hostages, the disbursement of humanitarian aid, and the future of military actions, all of which are integral components of the proposed 60-day ceasefire.
