Bayer Leverkusen Confirms Appointment of Erik ten Hag as New Head Coach
Leverkusen, Germany - German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen has confirmed the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new head coach. The Dutchman is reportedly set to sign a two-year contract with the club, set to commence on July 1, 2025.
According to German sports magazine Kicker, the deal with Ten Hag is a "done deal." Preliminary negotiations regarding the terms of the contract took place over the past few days, but a final decision from Bayer was awaited. That decision has now been made, leaving only the formalities of finalizing and signing the contract.
Cesc Fàbregas, the coach of Como, had previously been a candidate for the vacant position following Xabi Alonso's departure to manage Real Madrid. However, Fàbregas, who is 37 years old, was no longer seen as the favorite for the job at Bayer Leverkusen, the German runners-up.
Ten Hag, who previously coached Ajax Amsterdam and Manchester United, has secured the position at the Bundesliga club and will lead the team until 2027. Further details about the contract are yet to be made public.
Ten Hag's tenure at Bayer Leverkusen will bring his expertise in European leagues and football to German football. With Ten Hag being previously associated with Ajax Amsterdam and Manchester United, Bayer Leverkusen will be participating in some exciting European football leagues under his leadership.
