Agoda Reports Surge in Global Interest for Diwali in India

Agoda, a leading online travel platform, has reported a surge in international interest in experiencing Diwali in India. Expedia, another prominent travel agency, has also seen a significant increase in searches for Diwali-related travel. The festival of lights has drawn substantial attention from global travellers, with South Korea leading the way with a 45x increase in searches.

Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, commented on the growing international fascination with Diwali. He noted a 24% increase in searches for India during the upcoming Diwali week. The United Arab Emirates and the United States also expressed keen interest, with searches rising by 87% and 28% respectively.

Agoda and Expedia both offer a wide range of accommodations, flights, and packages to cater to these festive journeys. Among international markets, Thailand and Malaysia showed strong travel interest, with searches growing nearly twofold and 25% respectively.

Goa emerged as the most searched destination for Diwali, followed by Udaipur and Jaipur with a 49% and 46% rise in searches respectively. New Delhi and Mumbai also witnessed increased searches, doubling and rising by 18% respectively. However, the top ten international markets showing the strongest interest have not been specified.

The international travel searches to India grew by 67% year-on-year during Diwali, indicating a steady rise in global fascination with the festival. Domestic travel searches within India also increased by 18% during the Diwali period, reflecting the festival's significance and appeal.
