Agitation Free, the innovators of cosmic Krautrock, are back with a new album after a lengthy hiatus. It's been nearly 25 years since they last graced our ears, but fear not, fans of their psychedelic and experimental sound! Four original members, including Lutz Graf-Ulbrich, have joined forces to create a fresh album titled "Momentum."
The idea for this new album was sparked during a 2013 festival, where the band members reconnected and decided that their creative energy was still alive and well. In an interview with the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Graf-Ulbrich admitted he was surprised at the revival of their music, saying, "Younger people are now discovering us and older people are rediscovering us."
The ten-year journey to create "Momentum" has resulted in seven mesmerizing tracks. Listeners will be transported back in time with lush, spherical, and psychedelic ambient sounds paired with guitar magic. The opening track even features snippets of Agitation Free's past, with sounds from a 1973 French television performance.
The band has remained true to their roots, blending spacey psych and Eastern influences to create a sound that is both hypnotic and ethereal. Their creative process has always been free-spirited and experimental, which is reflected in their dynamic music.
While there's no new "Momentum" album from Agitation Free to speak of, their legacy lives on through their debut LP, "Malesch." This true Krautrock classic, released in 1972, remains a highly sought-after and significant work that has inspired many subsequent bands.
