Two real estate agents working for Orpi, a company based in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, lost their jobs after hurling insults at Rima Hassan, a Member of European Parliament (MEP). The act, caught on camera and shared on social media, sparked widespread condemnation and a swift response from Orpi.

MEP Hassan, who has faced notable harassment due to her advocacy for the recognition of Palestine and peace in Gaza, encountered these real estate agents on the streets of the 10th. In a video posted on platform X and Instagram, Hassan can be seen facing off with one agent who fiercely echoed anti-Palestinian sentiments, such as "We're going to burn your Palestine." Hassan retaliated calmly, asserting, "You're not in Israel, here." She also mentioned that this was the second time she had been targeted by these agents.

Addressing Orpi France, Hassan questioned the agency's tolerance for such behavior: "Hello Orpi agency, could you explain to me how one of your employees could attack me like this?" Orpi France promptly acknowledged the gravity of the situation, expressing regret and announcing the dismissal of the involved employees: "The remarks made by the employee of the agency [...] are totally unacceptable and contrary to the fundamental values that our network defends."

"After contacting the agency concerned to demand appropriate disciplinary measures, the associate of the agency has, from now on, dismissed the employees concerned.", Orpi France stated, presenting apologies to Hassan. The MEP simply responded, "Thank you."

Lessons from the Ordeal: Stay Civic and Mindful

The whirlwind of events demonstrates the importance of maintaining a civil tone, especially when dealing with public figures and upholding professional standards. Companies are increasingly held accountable for their employees' behavior, as their actions reflect on the company's values. In this case, Orpi's swift response shows their commitment to setting an example for respectful treatment of public officials and clients.
