Aged 71, well-established Malayalam thespian Shanawas breathes his last
Shanawas, a renowned name in the Malayalam film industry, passed away late Monday night at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He was 71 years old.
The actor, known for his versatile performances in films such as Mazhanilavu, Neelagiri, Manithali, Gaanam, Aazhi, and Human, had been battling serious health issues for a long time.
Shanawas began his acting career in 1981 with the film Prema Geethangal and went on to appear in over 50 Malayalam films. Some of his notable performances include his debut film, a hit, and his role in Chithram (1988) where he played Raveendran, the former lover of the female lead.
He also acted in Prathigna (1983), Inspector Balram (1995), and China Town (2011), a Mohanlal-starrer that marked his comeback after a long break. His final film appearance was in the 2022 blockbuster Jana Gana Mana. Other films include Irattimadhuram, Mylanjii, Prasnam Gurutharam, Adhipathyam, Maniyara, Himam, and Passport.
In addition to films, Shanawas also acted in several television serials. Notably, he played Kannappan in Kadamattathu Kathanar.
