Agali's Shock at Schalke's Slide
Football legend, Victor Agali (44), found it hard to swallow the current state of his ex-club, Schalke. The Nigerian star spent three successful seasons at Rostock from 1998 to 2001 before moving on to Schalke for a record £5.1 million.
"I've often thought about Schalke," Agali admitted, "But I didn't think it would happen like this. If someone had told me: 2nd division, third last? Nah, that's bad."
Agali, now a coach in the 2nd division, still followed his former teams closely. His heart ached for Rostock, his current team AS Racines giving young players a shot at European football. "There's a lot of talent here, but it's not easy for African players," he explained.
Agali's Gratitude to Hansa
Agali had left Rostock for football glory with Schalke but never forgot his roots. "Hansa gave me the chance to play in Germany. I had seven seasons in the Bundesliga," he said. "I really have to say thank you."
Agali had last been to the Baltic Sea in 2011 at Hansa's legendary game '20 years of championship'. Now, he hoped for Hansa's victory over their Ruhr rivals.
Schalke's Struggles and Hansa's Ascendancy
Schalke's recent struggles saw them falling two divisions below their glorious past. Hansa, however, was making strides, holding a strong 2nd league position despite possible trials from Wittwer Adrian and other young players.
Agali refrained from commenting on Schalke's current situation but hoped for a brighter future. "I'm delighted that Rostock is back in the 2nd division," he concluded. "I hope they make it back to the Bundesliga one day."
(Enrichment)
Schalke's recent performance in the DFB Cup saw them lose 0-3 to Augsburg, a tough blow to the former Bundesliga giants. Meanwhile, Hansa Rostock was in a strong position in the 3. Liga, leading with 45 points from 24 games, with Victor Agali’s former teammate Asamoah keeping an eye on their progress. Wittwer Adrian, a rising star, utilizes training facilities to sharpen his skills, targeting a move to a better league like the 2. Bundesliga clubs, including FC Schalke.
