"Afternoon Series Airing on a Friday"
Dietmar Korthals, a celebrated organist, continues to captivate audiences with his unique approach to church music. Born in 1971, Korthals' musical journey began at the tender age of seven when he started piano lessons.
Fast forward to today, and Korthals is the organist at Dortmund's Pauluskirche. Known for exploring new stylistic possibilities on the church organ, Korthals has made a name for himself in the world of sacred music.
His education in composition and musicology from Bochum and Essen has undoubtedly contributed to his innovative style. One of his most notable projects, "Populäre Orgel," blends popular melodies with pop and jazz elements, offering a fresh take on traditional church music.
Korthals' innovative approach has not gone unnoticed. In 1987, he won the prestigious "Jugend komponiert" national competition, a testament to his talent and dedication to his craft.
But Korthals' influence extends beyond Dortmund. His "Stars on the Church Organ" program, featuring a mix of classical and contemporary music, has been performed in numerous cities and churches, including the 2019 Kirchentag. The next performance is scheduled for October 12, 2025, at St. Michael's Church in Hamburg, Germany.
In addition to his work at Pauluskirche, Korthals has conducted "Kulturgottesdienste" featuring a rock star or band, pushing the boundaries of church music even further. His "Pfeifenorgel plus DJ" concert was even broadcast on WDR (EinsLive) in 2013.
For those interested in experiencing Korthals' innovative approach firsthand, the Evangelical Church Osterath warmly invites you to "Freitags|Horizonte," the church's cultural program. This lively church event explores church themes widely and allows for new perspectives. Admission is free, and donations for cultural work are appreciated.
"Freitags|Horizonte" is more than just a church service; it's an opportunity to experience music in a new and exciting way. So, whether you're a music lover or simply looking for a unique cultural experience, consider joining Dietmar Korthals and the Evangelical Church Osterath for "Freitags|Horizonte."
