'After The Hunt' Production Designer Stefano Baisi On Creating "Layers Of History" To Match The Apartment Of An "Academic Elite"

The apartment of Alma and Frederik in After the Hunt was carefully crafted to reflect their family’s legacy and elite tastes. Production designer Stefano Baisi drew from multiple generations to shape its sophisticated look. The result blends European heritage, mid-century American style, and modern global influences.

Originally described as a brownstone, the apartment shifted to a horizontal layout inspired by New York’s Upper West and Upper East Side residences. Baisi looked to iconic buildings like the Langham and the Dakota for architectural cues.

The design carries three distinct layers of history. The grandparents’ influence appears in European and Bauhaus elements. The parents’ era is mirrored in Kennedy-style interiors, reminiscent of Jacqueline Kennedy’s refined aesthetic. Finally, Alma and Frederik’s own travels and art collections add a contemporary, worldly touch. Baisi aimed to create more than just a living space—he wanted a visual narrative of the family’s past. Each detail, from furniture to decor, ties back to their generational story.

The apartment’s final design merges historical references with personal history. It stands as a curated reflection of Alma and Frederik’s lineage, education, and global experiences. The space now serves as a key visual element in After the Hunt, grounding the characters in a richly textured world.
