"After five decades of exclusion, illusionists Penn & Teller have been inducted into the Magic Circle"
Penn & Teller, the renowned duo known for their magical acts and comedic style, have been inducted into the Magic Circle – a prestigious organisation dedicated to the art of magic.
The ceremony took place on Friday at the Palladium in London's West End, where Penn & Teller are currently performing their 50th Anniversary residency and tour. The duo first performed together back in August 1975, and they found fame in the mid-1980s, captivating audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.
The Magic Circle, founded in 1905, currently boasts around 1,750 members from around the world, including the King, who is also a member. However, Penn & Teller's membership has been a long time coming. They were initially barred from the Magic Circle for exposing their tricks as part of their act.
Despite this history, the duo was honored by the invitation to join the Magic Circle, an organisation that prides itself on its cardinal rule of not giving away secrets. Magic Circle president Marvin Berglas praised Penn & Teller's original and artistic performances, describing the Magic Circle as a diverse group of creative minds and talented performers.
Throughout their career, Penn & Teller have toured with critically acclaimed shows and achieved mainstream success. They have also faced criticism, with figures like Donald Trump reportedly putting them on his "enemies list".
Penn & Teller's 50th Anniversary Tour is currently running at The London Palladium and will continue until Wednesday, 24 September. The duo achieved TV success in both the US and UK, and their induction into the Magic Circle is a testament to their enduring influence in the world of magic.
