Following a rain-soaked spell, Berlin and Brandenburg are bracing for a chilly transition. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the relentless rain in the central and southern areas will taper off in the early hours of Tuesday. Regions like Havelland and Fläming recorded approximately 30 to 40 liters per square meter in the past 24 hours, up to the morning.
Throughout Tuesday, expect overcast skies, and in Brandenburg's south, you may encounter rain or drizzle in certain areas. The fog and cloud cover may linger until midday, but it will only rain in isolated spots elsewhere. By evening, the clouds will break up, leading to a progressively drier atmosphere. Temperatures in the morning will hover between 5 and 7 degrees, bringing slight declines throughout the day.
From Tuesday night until Wednesday, frost is predicted under clear or partially cloudy skies. Temperatures are expected to plummet to between -4 and -6 degrees, with rare instances of light rain in Lusatia. The DWD raises concerns about icy patches due to freezing rain and occasional light snowfall in the south.
Wednesday should be sunny and wintry, with more clouds gathering in the northern regions from evening onwards. Temperatures will hit a high of 0 to 2 degrees, with light frost persisting until noon before arriving again in the evening.
The precipitation significantly aids in the cooling of Berlin and Brandenburg, contributing to the predicted frost during Tuesday night to Wednesday. According to the DWD, this is attributable to the ongoing wet conditions.
While continuous rain doesn't significantly influence the onset of winter, Berlin and Brandenburg are currently experiencing colder temperatures, with a possibility of icy conditions due to freezing rain.
