After 26 years: Eric McCormack's wife wants a divorce

After two and a half decades of marital bliss, "Will & Grace" star Eric McCormack finds himself in the midst of a divorce saga. His long-time companion, Hollywood director Janet Holden, has petitioned for separation, as per reports from gossip outlet TMZ. The issue at hand? Irreconcilable differences, with no specified date of separation mentioned in the filing.

Holden is seeking alimony in return, ensuring McCormack will not receive any funds from her post-divorce. The couple shares no dependent children, their eldest son, Finnigan, having turned 21.

McCormack and Holden first crossed paths on the set of the television series "Lonesome Dove" in 1994. At the time, McCormack served as an actor, while Holden held the position of assistant director. Their nuptials took place in August 1997 and, until recently, their last public appearance was at a New York City party on July 24.

Famous for his portrayal of homosexual lawyer Will Truman in NBC's sitcom "Will & Grace", McCormack graced the small screen for a total of 246 episodes between 1998 and 2006, as well as its revival between 2017 and 2020. His performance earned him five Golden Globe nominations and an Emmy Award in 2001. In 2018, McCormack was immortalized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A wave of celebrity separations has swept across the entertainment industry this year. Notable among them, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith have admitted to being separated for seven years, with Jada disclosing this information more recently.

Numerous other Hollywood break-ups in 2023 include Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, and Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner.

With the news of McCormack's divorce, the celebrity separation saga appears to be far from over.
