Africa: Market for Evaporated And Condensed Milk 2025
The African market for evaporated and condensed milk has shrunk in 2024. The sector’s value dropped to $351 million, marking a 9.1% decline from the previous year. Both imports and production have fallen, reflecting broader challenges in the industry.
Imports of evaporated and condensed milk into Africa have steadily decreased over recent years. In 2024, the volume fell to its lowest point, with shipments dropping by a significant margin for the second year running. This follows a brief rise in 2021, when imports had temporarily increased.
Production across the continent also declined in 2024. South Africa remains the largest producer, accounting for a major share of the total volume. However, overall output has weakened, with export values reflecting a downward trend.
Prices for imported milk products varied widely between countries. Libya recorded the highest import price per ton, while Burkina Faso had the lowest. Despite fluctuations, the average import price showed little change over the past year, maintaining a relatively stable pattern.
Consumption of evaporated and condensed milk in Africa has not recovered since its peak in 2014. After reaching $474 million that year, demand has remained lower over the past decade. The latest figures confirm this long-term decline.
The African evaporated and condensed milk market now stands at $351 million, down 9.1% from 2023. Both imports and production have contracted, with prices showing little movement. The industry continues to face challenges after years of declining consumption and trade.
