Step into the world of affordable, easy-to-use electric mobility with the Niu KQi 100. While it may not be a mountain-conquering beast, it delivers functionality, ease of use, and even a touch of smart technology, all for a wallet-friendly price of around 350 euros.
The KQi 100 boasts a straightforward yet well-thought-out design. The foldable handlebar allows for easy transportation, and the top handlebar tube doubles as a carrying handle. The scooter tips the scales at approximately 17 kilograms, making long carrying sessions a bit of a challenge. But with a max load capacity of 120 kilograms, riders up to 100 kilograms can hop on without any issues.
Power Output
Upright handlebars, a push with your leg, and a thumb push on the throttle located on the right handlebar grip - that's all it takes to kick-start the 600-watt peak power motor nestled in the rear wheel. The motor is rated at 300 watts, providing decent speeds on flat ground. However, serious thrill-seekers may want to opt for more powerful models.
During our testing on a smooth go-kart track, we managed a stable speed of 22 km/h in sport mode, thanks to the speed indicator. The KQi 100 can crawl up a 15-degree incline, but those seeking a true mountain climber should look elsewhere. The 243 watt-hour battery integrated into the footboard is designed for around 29 kilometers of range, making it a suitable choice for short-distance travel.
Stable Ride
The footboard offers a stable platform to stand on, with the best position being right at the back. The handlebar meets riders approximately halfway, providing a comfortable posture. The rear wheel is rigidly attached to extended frame tubes, while the front wheel benefits from a small suspension fork, enhancing riding stability and comfort on various terrains.
The KQi 100 isn't designed for off-roading. Its 10-inch air-filled tires ensure stable running on asphalt and responsive handling in curves. The scooter features a regenerative rear wheel brake, as well as a drum brake in the front wheel that can be controlled via a brake lever. Although the braking force isn't particularly strong, it's more than enough to prevent unsafe stops during emergencies.
Smart Features
Despite being an entry-level model, the KQi 100 comes with a few appealing additions. These include Bluetooth connectivity for smart unlocking and over-the-air app updates. Front and rear lights, turn signals, and a mechanical bell ensure street legality according to StVZO standards. All in all, the Niu KQi 100 delivers basic functionality at an affordable price. Online retailers are already offering it at discounted prices, making it an even more appealing choice.
