Affleck Humorously Derides Damon's Prolonged The Odyssey Beard, Yet Damon Persists in Public Outings with It
Pal and Partners in Crime:
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have got a friendship that's as solid as granite, having been forged in the streets of Boston. They've penned and starred in blockbusters like Good Will Hunting and are gearing up for their latest project The Rip. So expect these two to be inseparable, whether on or off the screen.
Recently, Matt sported a lush beard for Christopher Nolan's epic, The Odyssey, and Affleck couldn't resist poking fun. At Netflix Tudum 2025, they appeared together to promote their netflix crime thriller, with Affleck taking a jab at his buddy's facial hair, like an old hand. Their camaraderie continued at a fancy steakhouse called Steak 48, where they shared a meal with Damon's wife, Luciana, and Affleck even shared hugs and laughs with the couple.
Affleck, fresh off his high-profile divorce from Jennifer Lopez, has kept his bond with the Damons unbroken. That stomach-churning beard joke apparently wasn't enough to sever ties.
Based on the released images of The Rip, it seems Damon traded his beard for a goatee. As for the roasting, don't count on it ending anytime soon – Affleck's readying his one-liners for the film's 2026 release.
In The Rip, Damon and Affleck, along with a diverse cast including Sasha Calle, Teyana Taylor, Steven Yeun, and Kyle Chandler, play a team of Miami cops. Their loyalty is tested when they unearth millions in a stashhouse, leading to a cascade of events that make trusting your comrades more challenging than ever. The film is set to drop on Netflix on January 16, 2026.
Directed by Joe Carnahan, The Rip is a martial arts crime film teasing themes of loyalty, trust, and the pressures that can split even the tightest of teams apart. The movie has been inspired by Carnahan's friend's personal experience in narcotics with the Miami-Dade Police Department, along with classics like Heat and Narc.
In the daily blend of their friendship, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck discuss their upcoming projects, such as their upcoming Netflix crime thriller, which also includes movies-and-tv stars like Sasha Calle and Teyana Taylor. As the entertainment industry anticipates the 2026 release of The Rip, audiences can expect continued camaraderie and friendly banter between these two Hollywood veterans.
