Meet Dennis W. (alias changed), the perfect romantic catch. A charismatic and successful lawyer on the brink of being appointed to the European Court of Justice, he proves to be irresistible for Singer Matthias Rödder in the vibrant nightlife of Cologne. As the flirtatious banter deepens into a serious relationship, even glaring warning signs, and the growing concerns of Matthias' friends and family, fail to deter him for over four years. The power of love can indeed be blinding!
Eventually, even the besotted singer can no longer ignore the grim reality: Dennis W. is a mastermind love scammer, manipulating Matthias' emotions to gain access to his finances. When he discovers other victims of Dennis W., Matthias decides to take a stand and bring the fraudster to justice.
Nils Bökamp, who both produces, directs, and scripts the series, ponders the central question that set the project in motion: "How could someone not see this?" Remarkably, the docuseries provides us a glimpse of how even the most astute individuals can fall under the spell of a cunning loving scammer. Indeed, Dennis W. proved that he was no stranger to courts, even fooling seasoned lawyers into trusting his elaborate façade as a bona fide attorney.
