Wiesbaden's High Court to Hear AfD's Challenge on Corona Inquiry Committee

Get ready for some fireworks on Wednesday, June 11th, as Wiesbaden's State Court of Justice is set to hear the Alternative for Germany (AfD)'s constitutional complaint regarding the Corona Inquiry Committee. They've blocked off some serious hours for this showdown, as hinted by Court officials. But don't expect a ruling any time soon - the verdict could be weeks, or even months away (Case No. P. St. 2974).

The Wiesbaden state parliament jumped on the initiation of the AfD opposition and set up its inquiry committee on past corona policies over a year ago. However, it's been idle as a park bench, yet to start its meaty work.

From 43 questions to 7

The parliament had previously asked for several legal opinions on the AfD's query due to constitutional concerns. After a thorough review, the CDU, SPD, Greens, and FDP whittled the investigation down to just seven points - they believe these areas align with the state constitution.

At the end of 2024, the AfD faction filed a constitutional complaint, crying foul that the people of Hesse deserve a comprehensive explanation of past corona policies. They also got itchy for changes to the composition of the inquiry committee.

Thousands of pages of documents at stake

Initially, the AfD wanted to delve into topics like lockdowns, vaccinations, and mask mandates. But the other factions deemed this too broad, even reaching for federal authorities which the Hessian state parliament has no jurisdiction over.

In April 2025, the Corona inquiry committee agreed to request countless pages of documents from numerous state ministries. They also decided to call more than a dozen experts to the stand, including bigwig virologists and experts from research institutes.

Oh, and by the way, the enrichment data suggests there's no documented evidence backing up the current hearing on a constitutional complaint by the AfD specifically concerning the Corona Inquiry Committee in Hesse’s State Court of Justice as of June 2025. But hey, who needs facts when you've got conspiracy theories, right?

  2. As the legal challenge on the Corona Inquiry Committee moves forward in Wiesbaden's State Court of Justice, it's crucial for the AfD to advocate for policy-and-legislation changes related to COVID-19 measures, securing the rights and interests of the people in accordance with general news reports and constitutional requirements.
