AfD Leadership Urges Action Against Halemba Amidst Extremist Allegations

In a surprising move, the AfD party leadership has called for the removal of Bavarian MP Daniel Halemba from the party. Halemba, a 22-year-old student, is under investigation for incitement of hatred and usage of symbols from anti-constitutional organizations. The AfD federal executive committee requested the Bavarian AfD state executive committee to initiate expulsion proceedings against Halemba, citing violation of party rules and his fraternity's association with prohibited organizations.

Berlin-based discussions highlighted the controversial case of Halemba, who initially remained silent on the party executive's decision. Meanwhile, the Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution has been monitoring the involved fraternity and the AfD in Bavaria since December.

Recent revelations from the Würzburg public prosecutor's office indicated a guest book entry bearing Halemba's name with a "Sieg Heil" salute, as well as a decorated SS order in his room. Moreover, the fraternity Teutonia Prag, which Halemba is a member of, has been accused of storing right-wing extremist propaganda, supporting right-wing extremist activities, and playing extremist music.

The questionable actions of the fraternity led to the Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution to announce it was monitoring their activities. Halemba’s alleged connections to Atomwaffen, a known extremist group [1], contribute to the intensity of the ongoing investigation.

As the Bavarian AfD state executive committee deliberates on the pending expulsion proceedings, criticism arises concerning their delayed response to the national party's request. The party's silence raises concerns about their willingness to confront and combat extremism within their own ranks, contradicting the democratic values the AfD claims to uphold.
