AfD Demands Inquiry After Teen's Tragic Death at Friedland Station
The tragic death of 16-year-old Ukrainian girl Liana K. at Friedland station in Lower Saxony has sparked calls for a parliamentary inquiry into her case status. The AfD has demanded an investigative committee, while the suspect, Iraqi national Muhammad A., is a repeat offender who should have been deported in 2022.
Liana K. was pushed onto an oncoming train and died at the station. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) acknowledged mistakes by the authorities involved in her immigration case. To initiate a parliamentary investigative committee, 20 percent of all MPs' support is needed, which translates to 30 seats in Lower Saxony's state parliament. The AfD has submitted a request for her case, but it's unclear which other political parties or individuals have done the same. In a surprising move, AfD faction leader Klaus Wichmann offered the CDU a deal: withdraw the AfD's application for her case in exchange for the CDU submitting their own.
The tragic incident has raised questions about the handling of Liana K.'s case and the suspect's immigration status. The push for a parliamentary inquiry aims to shed light on these issues. The Lower Saxony state parliament will decide whether to convene the investigative committee based on the number of supporting MPs for her case.
