June 20, Geneva - Diplomatic sparks are flying this week as European foreign ministers duke it out, not with Iran, but with the prospect of the US joining Israel in sabotaging Iran's nuclear program. This dance of deceit unfolds as the E3 – consisting of Britain, France, and Germany – attempts to reignite talks with Iran's counterparts, hoping to avoid World War III, all while coordinating with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Without mincing words, the European lot chatted with Abbas Araqchi a few days ago and have been working hand in glove with Marco Rubio to keep Iran's nuclear ambitions at bay. Despite Israel's Air Force going ham on Iran's nuclear facilities and ballistic capabilities, calling their op "Operation Rising Lion," the Europeans insist this is no cause for alarm.

"We can't pop champers with the Yanks yet," admits a European diplomat, "But we'll give those Iranians a piece of our mind and advise about returning to the negotiating table. And while we're at it, we'll throw in our concerns about their ballistic missiles, cozying up to Russia, and keeping our people prisoners."

The Europeans, who le Professionnel at the Iran-US nuclear negotiations, gave the cold shoulder to the US's negotiation strategies. They believed some of the demands to be reached for the moon and feared a flimsy framework would lead us down a rabbit hole of open-ended negotiations, making way for Iran to build up their pesky nuke program.

No big expectations ride on the meeting in Geneva, where the European Union's foreign policy chief will also be present. But engaging with Iran, they reason, is vital because let's face it, when the guns stop blazing, the Iranian nuclear program will still be a ticking time bomb, what with the unattainable know-how that would no doubt remain.

Meanwhile, the Iranians remain steadfast that diplomacy is the answer. "Business as usual, daddy-o!" proclaims an Iranian official. Yet, they called on the EU to apply pressure on Israel to halt their airstrikes on Iran. With a sly smile, they say, "Talk to the hand, diplomacy is taking a beating!"

While the US, under the lead of President Donald Trump, is ready to drop bombs if the Iranians don't come to their senses, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated there is still room for negotiation. "Let's seize this opportunity and stop this situation from going downhill any further. We have a golden opportunity to secure a peaceful resolution in the next two weeks," he said, referring to whispers from the White House that Trump would take a decision on joining Israel's war efforts in the next fortnight.

Prior to Israel's strikes, the E3, in sync with the US, proposed a UN-approved resolution that deemed Iran in breach of their nuclear non-proliferation obligations. The European officials, seeking pressure on Iran, hinted that they might refer Iran to the United Nations Security Council towards the end of summer. However, this would be separate from the snapback mechanism, which the Europeans could trigger before October 18, the expiry date of the 2015 accord.

Stay tuned, folks, as this hot potato continues to heat up! The stakes are high, and we're all just along for the wild ride.
