In the heart of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, satellite images comparisons reveal a significant decrease in the number of tents in Gaza City's port area and further south. This reduction is also evident in large tent camps in Sheikh Radwan, Al-Shati Refugee Camp, and Rimal-neighborhoods west of Jabalia in northern Gaza, which have almost entirely vanished.

Displaced Palestinians seeking safety in tent camps along the coast of northern Gaza appear to have evacuated in large numbers, leaving only smaller tent clusters in Gaza City itself. However, tent camps remain dotted along the coastal road south of Gaza's port.

The Israeli military's intensified bombardments and ground invasion over the last week seem to have contributed to this decline in tent camps within Gaza City. Between Sept. 4 - 15, thousands of tents set up in empty lots, along the coast, and in less urban areas of Gaza have either disappeared or decreased dramatically in number.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have stated that they are attacking the Hamas stronghold in Gaza City. Over 65,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israel-Hamas war, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry.

The Israeli military launched a ground offensive in Gaza City on Tuesday, and Israeli officials issued an order for residents of Gaza City to evacuate a week ago, stating that the Israeli military would operate 'with great force' within Gaza City.

Despite the evacuation, more than half a million Palestinians are estimated to still be in northern Gaza. Smaller but densely populated camps in Gaza City's Al-Zaytoun and Tuffah neighborhoods have emptied out compared to the beginning of September.

The organization responsible for coordinating and supporting the remaining Palestinians in the existing tent camps in Gaza City is not explicitly named in the search results; however, it is indicated that international aid organizations and various NGOs are expected to be tasked with supporting displaced civilians in areas like near Rafah.

Meanwhile, Hamas remains the dominant force in Gaza City but is seen as oppressive rather than supportive in these camps. A resident of Al-Karamah in Gaza City stated that he does not have the money to leave northern Gaza for the south and is fearing for his life and that of his eight relatives.

IDF Spokesperson Effie Defrin stated that it will likely take 'a few months' for Israeli forces to complete their mission in Gaza City. On Oct. 7, 2023, more than 1,200 people were killed in Israel when Hamas launched a surprise attack, and about 250 people were kidnapped, according to Israeli officials.

As the conflict continues, the situation in Gaza remains precarious, with displaced Palestinians seeking safety and international aid organizations working to provide support. The future remains uncertain, with both sides continuing their military operations.
