A series of Israeli airstrikes, attributed to a significant escalation and violation of the existing ceasefire understanding, hit several locations in southern Lebanon on May 22, 2025. The strikes resulted in the death of at least two people and injuries to others.

The targeted locations included Bnaafoul in the Sidon district, Houmine al-Tahta, and surrounding areas southeast of Sidon. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly struck Hezbollah arms depots and key border crossings with Syria.

Additionally, the bombardment extended to Jezzine, Marjeyoun, al-Bissariyeh, and Berghoz, including areas north of the Litani River, a red line in the ceasefire agreement established following the 2006 war.

According to Israeli Army Radio, the IDF initially requested the Lebanese Army to intervene, but no response was received prior to the air raids. Low-flying Israeli warplanes and drones were later spotted over several southern Lebanon locations, raising concerns of further escalation along the volatile border with Israel.

Humanitarian organizations have emphasized the need for adherence to ceasefire commitments and international humanitarian law in the region, hoping to put an end to the ongoing casualties and displacement. As of May 2025, more than 4,267 have lost their lives, 17,579 have been injured, and nearly 93,000 people remain displaced due to hostilities.
