Advocacy for the removal of restrictions in Republic Square, Yakutsk, and the waterfront in Pokrovsk, as expressed by Aysen Nikolayev
Headline: Aisen Nikolaev Expresses Concern over Public Space Maintenance in Yakutsk and Pokrovsk
In a recent visit to the town of Pokrovsk, Head of Yakutia Aisen Nikolaev expressed his concerns about the maintenance of public spaces, specifically the fountain on Republic Square in Yakutsk and the public swings installed on the city embankment in Pokrovsk.
Nikolaev noted that the situation with the fountain on Republic Square could have been resolved faster. He emphasised the importance of maintaining public spaces, stating that it requires funds, staff, or outsourcing to a business. He also expressed his hope that a solution will be found for the fountain soon.
In Pokrovsk, Nikolaev criticised the decision to weld the swings shut due to complaints. He believes that if safety measures are to be taken, the swings should function properly. He also mentioned that a custodian is needed for the public space in Pokrovsk to ensure its upkeep.
The public space in Pokrovsk, created in 2020 as part of a federal competition, received high praise at various levels. However, Nikolaev observed that it is starting to wear out and the settlement administration is not paying enough attention to its condition.
Nikolaev also mentioned that he works late and notices people gathering around the fountain on Republic Square every evening, enjoying the music that operates there. He expressed his dislike for the fencing off of the fountain, hoping that it is a temporary situation.
In August 2023, a solution for the welded swings in Pokrovsk was found, but Nikolaev did not provide any new information about the need for a custodian for the public space.
The public space in Pokrovsk was created to provide a comfortable urban environment, and Nikolaev believes that it is crucial for municipal authorities to pay proper attention to these spaces. He noted that the object now requires attention from them.
The Head of Yakutia's comments come at a time when public spaces are increasingly being recognised as essential components of urban life, contributing to the well-being and happiness of city dwellers.
