Following the Indian air strikes, code named "Operation Sindoor," various governments have issued travel cautionaries for Pakistan. Presently, it's recommended to postpone planned flights to the country until further notice. Passengers are encouraged to confirm with their airlines regarding the status of scheduled flights in accordance with the latest travel and security guidelines. Initially, Pakistan halted its airspace post the air strikes, but later in the day, the closure was lifted [1][2][3].

However, numerous flights continue to be grounded even after the airspace opening, as per updated travel and safety guidelines from the Foreign Office. The message reads, "Moreover, short-term travel restrictions within the country as well as potential airspace closures cannot be ruled out." In India, the airports in Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar are currently shut down [5].

The Foreign Office advises against traveling to the areas of Jammu, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. The border crossing at Wagah-Attari between India and Pakistan remains closed, and additional travel limitations might be imposed. German citizens residing in the region are recommended to register with the crisis prevention list of the Foreign Office. The crisis response team of the federal government is slated to convene today.

Travel Advisories across the Globe

United States

The US Embassy in Pakistan has declared a "Do Not Travel" advisory for regions adjacent to the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control due to concerns related to terrorism and military action [1][2][3]. American citizens are urged to steer clear of these zones and contemplate evacuation if feasible [5].

United Kingdom

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) advises against conducting travel within a 10-kilometer radius of the India-Pakistan border, within a 10-mile radius of the Line of Control, and to Pakistan’s Balochistan province [5]. British subjects are also advised to contact airlines for updates due to airspace closures.

China

China's foreign ministry has counseled its citizens to refrain from traveling to regions near the border [5].

Short-term Travel Restrictions

Travelers should exercise exceptional vigilance while in Pakistan due to heightened tensions. Specific restrictions apply near conflict zones and the Line of Control.

Airspace Closures

Pakistan's civil aviation authority has occasionally closed airspace, leading to flight cancellations and delays, particularly in neighboring areas. Similarly, several northern airports in India were temporarily closed following the military strikes, with flights to cities like Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, Amritsar, Dharamshala, Jodhpur, and Bhuj being cancelled or delayed [5].

Notable Airline Disruptions:

IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet have ceased or rescheduled flights due to airspace closures [5].

In summary, visiting certain regions of Pakistan is strongly discouraged, particularly near borders and conflict zones. Short-term travel is subject to military activity and potential airspace closures, which may have substantial impacts on travel.
