Advice from Cerritos Mayor Frank Yokoyama
The City of Cerritos has announced the postponement of its Community Safety Town Hall, originally scheduled for July 30, 2025. The decision comes in the wake of a tragic incident that claimed the lives of three Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department detectives from the Arson/Explosives Detail on July 18, 2025.
The postponement was necessary to allow the City of Cerritos, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the District Attorney’s Office to mourn the loss of Detectives Joshua Kelley-Eklund, Victor Lemus, and William Osborn. The City extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen heroes.
The Community Safety Town Hall was set to feature a panel discussion with Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert G. Luna, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman, and Cerritos Mayor Frank Aurelio Yokoyama. The event was intended to provide a platform for open dialogue about public safety concerns within the community.
The City of Cerritos stands with its law enforcement partners in response to this tragic loss. The City values the service and bravery of its law enforcement officials and first responders, both within its community and abroad.
The rescheduled date for the Community Safety Town Hall has not been announced yet. Updates on the rescheduling will be shared at cerritos.gov/townhall and across the City's social media platforms. In a show of solidarity, the City of Cerritos will pay tribute to the fallen heroes during its meeting on July 28. The City and its businesses aim to provide quality services and positive experiences, with public safety being fundamental to these outcomes.
