Adverse weather conditions intensify this weekend in Yakutia: expect frost, rain, and thunderstorms.
Brace Yourselves for a Chilly Swing in Yakutia's Weather!
Get ready to bundles up, Yakutians! The weather's about to take a dramatic turn, thanks to a cold atmospheric front moving in. The upcoming long weekend won't be as hot and sunny as you might have hoped. Instead, temperatures are set to plummet, with rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in the forecast, and even frosts!
Tatiana Marshalik, Deputy Head of Yakutsk's Hydrometeorological Center, shared the details about the impending chill. Today, June 11, is the last warm day we'll see, with temperatures near +30°C. But don't break out the swimsuits just yet if you're in western regions, as temperatures have already started to drop there due to the passage of the cold front, bringing heavy rain to the Lensky District. Starting from Thursday, June 12, the cold front will make its way towards central regions. By Thursday afternoon, expect brief showers, and winds gusting up to 15-20 m/s. Temperatures will drop to +25... +27°C.
On Friday, central Yakutia can expect more brief showers, with temperatures falling to +21...+23°C. By Saturday and Sunday, June 14 and 15, Yakutsk and the central regions will be in the rear part of the cold front, with overcast skies and occasional light rain. Temperatures will drop even further to +16... +18°C.
But don't fret, northeastern Yakutia! By Friday, you'll be under the influence of a warm air mass, with the Zhigansky, Verkhoyansky, Tomponsky, and Oymyakonsky districts expected to feel the heat. However, the cold front will eventually reach these areas as well.
By Monday, June 16, most of Yakutia should be enjoying cooler weather, with temperatures below normal and possible nighttime frosts in some places.
Tatiana Marshalik warned, "With the passage of the cold front and rain, clear night skies could lead to temperatures dropping to -2°C. Such weather is considered adverse." So, it's essential to monitor local weather forecasts for the latest information on potential cold fronts and any weather advisories.
Now, buckle up and prepare for the shift in weather! Stay warm and dry, Yakutsk folks!
Yakutia, located in eastern Siberia, has seen rapid climate warming, with annual air temperature trends increasing by 0.3–0.6 °C per decade since 19662. However, the region still experiences cold temperatures, especially during the early summer months. The warming trend is more pronounced in winter2. Cold fronts often lead to significant temperature drops, increased precipitation, and potential impacts on agricultural productivity, outdoor activities, and human comfort and health.
Invest in warm clothing as the weather-forecasting indicates a significant drop in temperatures across Yakutia. Keep an eye on weather updates, as the ongoing cold front is expected to bring about rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, potentially causing nighttime frosts, a weather condition that can be quite challenging.
