Adrian Fein re-emerges in the initial formation for the match against Cologne.
In the ongoing 2025/26 season, Bavarian midfielder Adrian Fein has made a comeback to SSV Jahn Regensburg, signing a contract that will keep him with the club until 2026. Fein previously played on loan with Regensburg in the 2018/19 season, appearing in 21 games.
Fein, who developed through the Bayern Munich academy, has had a varied career, playing for lower-division German clubs after failing to break into Bayern's first team. His most recent stint was with SV Waldhof Mannheim, but he has been without a club since July 1.
The midfielder has accumulated substantial minutes in Germany’s professional leagues, contributing both defensively and offensively from midfield. His playing history includes 57 matches and over 2,500 minutes in one setting, plus performances in second and first-tier competitions.
SSV Jahn Regensburg, who were relegated to the 3. Liga in 2023 and subsequently promoted back to the 2. Bundesliga via playoffs in 2024, are currently rebuilding their squad in the lower divisions. Fein's return is part of this rebuilding effort, aiming to leverage his experience to strengthen the midfield.
The club's recent performances have been less than ideal, with only one point from their first two games in the 3rd Liga, and a 0:4 loss in their first home game against MSV Duisburg. However, Fein's return might provide a much-needed boost.
In their first game against FC Ingolstadt, Noel Eichinger scored a late goal to save SSV Jahn Regensburg from defeat. Unfortunately, Jakob Bookjans had to be substituted due to a dangerous challenge by Christian Kühlwetter and will be out for months. Kühlwetter was shown a red card for the challenge and faces a suspension of several games. As a result, SSV Jahn Regensburg played with a man down in their second game against MSV Duisburg.
Despite these challenges, coach Michael Wimmer is optimistic about the team's potential. He is aware of the need for improvement and sees the DFB-Pokal match against 1. FC Köln as an opportunity to make amends. Adrian Fein is expected to face new competition in central midfield, alongside Andreas Geipl, in upcoming games.
Christian Kühlwetter, who is usually only suspended for 3rd Liga games, is expected to be available for the DFB-Pokal match against 1. FC Köln. The match presents a chance for SSV Jahn Regensburg to bounce back and start their season on a positive note.
