Adolescent Cricketers Overlooked in IPL: A Look at Their Current Whereabouts

Don't Fade Away: Former IPL Young Guns Who Failed to Shine

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been a stepping stone for rising cricketing talents, but some unfortunately haven't managed to make a lasting impact. Below are a few young debutants who made brief appearances before disappearing into oblivion.

Prayas Ray Barman

Barman, who broke the record for the youngest IPL debutant at 16 years and 157 days, is one such story. Acquired by RCB in IPL 2019 for INR 1.5 crore following his impressive performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he had a forgettable start, leaking 56 runs in four overs. In an interview with Sportsboom, he admitted to losing focus and not sticking to his bowling process[1]. Since then, he's played only three domestic games for Bengal since 2022 and has returned to college for further education[1].

Jaskaran Singh

Johnny-come-lately Jaskaran Singh was a part of the Deccan Chargers' IPL-winning team in 2009, playing eight games across both seasons. Compiling six wickets, including the scalps of Michael Hussey, Brad Hodge, and Kieron Pollard, Singh returned for Indian Premier League 2016 with Rising Pune Supergiant but failed to earn a spot in the playing eleven[1]. He now represents Canada in international cricket and has a total of nine wickets and 68 runs from five T20Is[2].

Sarvesh Kumar

A medium pacer, Sarvesh debuted for Deccan Chargers in a T20 match against Delhi Daredevils in May 2008. He conceded 24 runs in three overs and picked up one wicket in the next game against CSK. These were Sarvesh's only two T20 appearances in his career, during which he played a total of 11 domestic games across formats. He last played professionally in 2014[3].

Taruwar Kohli

Starring in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia, Kohli amassed 218 runs with three consecutive fifties, helping India claim the title. He showcased consistent domestic form, accumulating a total of 4,573 first-class runs at an average of 53.80, with two triple tons. Despite his impressive record, Kohli struggled to find his footing in the IPL, playing just four games for a meager 11 runs[3]. After moving to Mizoram in 2018, he hung up his boots in 2023 and now creates cricket content[4].

Harpreet Singh Bhatia

Bhatia kicked off his career with an outstanding 709 runs in seven games in the 2008/09 Cooch Behar Trophy. In 2009, he earned an IPL call-up with KKR. After subsequent stints with Pune Warriors India, his IPL debut came 11 seasons later, this time appearing for Punjab Kings[3]. He represents Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket and holds the record for the highest run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history.

Vijay Zol

Zol, who once held the record for the youngest T20 centurion (14 years), was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014. While impressing in age-group cricket, his IPL career was disappointingly short-lived, managing only 29 runs in three games[5]. His last domestic match was played in 2019.

Kamran Khan

Debuting for Rajasthan Royals at 18 years of age, the unknown Khan impressed with his speed, clocking 140 kmph consistently during the 2009 IPL. He picked up six wickets in five matches but managed only one more appearance for Pune in 2011, ending his T20 career[6]. Making a comeback in 2023, he appeared in the Pro Cricket League for Rajasthan Kings.
