Man Charged with Double Homicide at Devil's Den State Park

A 28-year-old man named Andrew James McGann has been arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder in the stabbing deaths of Clinton David Brink and Cristen Amanda Brink in Arkansas.

The tragic incident occurred on July 26 during a hiking trip at Devil's Den State Park. McGann, who was a former teacher from North Texas, was living in Springdale, Arkansas, at the time of his arrest.

The victims, Brink and Brink, were hiking with their young daughters, aged 7 and 9, who were unharmed in the incident. The children are now safe and in the custody of relatives.

McGann was arrested at a barbershop in Springdale, Arkansas, and admitted to the killings during an interview with police. Knives were recovered from his residence, but it is unclear if any was the murder weapon. DNA from blood recovered from the crime scene matches McGann's DNA.

Items recovered from McGann's residence were consistent with being involved in this particular crime. The prosecutor's office will not be waiving the death penalty in the case.

Arkansas State Police released a composite sketch and photo from behind of a man seen in Devil's Den State Park on the day of the killings, seeking public help in identifying him. Police received over 500 tips and credited the public's help in bringing the suspect into custody.

The suspect was seen leaving the area of the park in a black, four-door sedan, possibly a Mazda, with a license plate covered by tape. The vehicle description was "critical" in identifying the suspect.

McGann had previously worked at an elementary school in Flower Mound, Texas, but was placed on administrative leave and ultimately resigned due to concerns related to classroom management, professional judgment, and student favoritism. During the 2023-2024 school year, he was a fifth-grade teacher in Broken Arrows, Oklahoma.

All trails at Devil's Den State Park will remain closed for now. McGann is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Friday.
