administration's crackdown on clean energy, opposed by Murkowski
Senator Lisa Murkowski, a Republican representing Alaska, voiced her criticism of the Trump administration's attacks on renewable energy during an event at National Clean Energy Week. The event, which took place this year, was not a particularly happy one for clean energy, according to Senator Murkowski.
The senator's remarks were disrupted by several protesters at the beginning of the event, who chanted "Alaska burns, Lisa earns," in reference to Senator Murkowski's vote securing passage of Republicans' tax and policy bill, H.R. 1 (119). This bill made it more difficult for renewable energy projects to take advantage of federal tax credits.
One notable example of the administration's actions against renewable energy is the halt of the giant Revolution Wind project. The Revolution Wind project is a renewable energy project of significant scale.
Senator Murkowski emphasized that an all-of-the-above energy policy should not be empty rhetoric. She told the audience that it was a mistake to reject an all-of-the-above approach to energy. The senator's comments came as the president of the United States, Donald Trump, who began his second presidency on January 20, 2025, continues to face criticism for his administration's stance on renewable energy.
Despite the challenges, Senator Murkowski acknowledged a difficult time for clean energy. However, she remains committed to advocating for a balanced energy policy that supports both traditional and renewable energy sources.
