Adingiri Rashtriya Natya Utsav 2026 kicks off with vibrant theatre performances in Guwahati

The sixth edition of the Adingiri Rashtriya Natya Utsav 2026 began on March 13 at Adingiri Hills in Guwahati. Running until March 15, the festival brings together seven theatre groups from Assam and West Bengal. Organised by cultural group Abhigyanm, the event aims to showcase diverse performances and promote theatre tourism.

The festival was officially inaugurated by Durga Khatiwoda and Binoy Kalita. Over three days, attendees can enjoy six plays: Kordoi Xiria Paharor Xadhu, A Stupid Common Man, Agadoom Baghadoom, A BPL Love Story, Tamasha - The Darkening Light, and Jalti Burhir Jolfai. Each production reflects a mix of regional storytelling and contemporary themes.

Alongside performances, the event features interactive sessions, panel discussions, and masterclasses. Renowned directors such as Himanshu Prasad Das, Manimala Das, Mukul Oedipus, Ronhang Choudhury, Avik Bhattacharya, and Arpan Chakraborty are leading key sessions. Their involvement highlights the festival's focus on artistic exchange and skill development. Held from March 12–15 in Agartala, Tripura, this year's edition continues the tradition of fostering cultural dialogue. The festival's structure encourages both artists and audiences to engage deeply with theatre as an evolving art form.

The Adingiri Rashtriya Natya Utsav 2026 concludes on March 15 after four days of performances and discussions. The event strengthens ties between theatre communities in Assam and West Bengal. By blending traditional and modern elements, it also reinforces the growing concept of theatre tourism in the region.
