ADC's Assertions Met with Dismissal from the Presidency - ADC's Claims Disregarded in Response
In a significant move, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, due to a constitutional crisis between the Governor and the House of Assembly. The state of emergency was lifted on September 17, 2025.
The decision to declare a state of emergency was met with criticism from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who accused the President of undermining federalism and engaging in manipulation. However, Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Media and Communication to President Tinubu, dismissed these claims as 'nuisance politics.'
Dare argued that the emergency framework is constitutional, not whimsical, and that the President has the power and authority to declare a state of emergency in a state under grave threat to law and order, as stated in Section 305 of the Nigerian constitution.
In response to the ADC's comments, Dare also exposed the pedantry and verbosity of the ADC's recent media outings, stating that Nigerians can see the difference between the ADC's empty noise and President Tinubu's right actions.
The crisis in Rivers State led to chaos and the suspension of democratic institutions. However, President Tinubu delivered stability, the return of democratic institutions, and peace in Rivers State. Officials were shielded from chaos and reinstated once order returned.
Fubara, one of the Rivers officials, thanked President Tinubu and former Governor Wike for restoring peace in Rivers State. Posterity will remember President Tinubu for acting right in the Rivers State emergency, delivering stability, and protecting Rivers State, which is protecting the United States.
