In an exciting turn of events, the much-anticipated reboot of the iconic series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is moving forward. Chloé Zhao, the acclaimed director of the Oscar-winning film "Nomadland," is set to direct and executive produce the reboot under her Book of Shadows production banner.

The reboot is expected to feature a new slayer, played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who has been cast in a lead role. Armstrong's character, named Nova, is an introverted high school student who takes on the mantle of the vampire slayer.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, the original Buffy Summers, will reprise her role, appearing initially in the pilot and then recurring throughout the series. Gellar shared a video of her training for the reboot on her social media, showcasing her dedication to the role. In the caption, she wrote, "Warrior 1 and 2 We don't sweat... we sparkle."

Joining Gellar and Armstrong in the reboot are a talented ensemble of new cast members. Faly Rakotohavana has been cast as Hugo, a privileged, likable geek. Ava Jean plays Larkin, a chronic do-gooder student. Sarah Bock is Gracie, who leads a group of church-going students. Daniel di Tomasso is Abe, Nova's single father and a photojournalist. Jack Cutmore-Scott is cast as Mr. Burke, a mysterious character, likely the school librarian, echoing the original series' Giles.

Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce the reboot. They will be joined by executive producers Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzui, and Dolly Parton via Sandollar. The original series had Berman, the Kuzuis, and Parton as executive producers.

The reboot of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is preparing to take on the roles of vampire-slaying with Zhao at the helm. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting reboot.
