Actress Jennifer Lawrence Honored with Major Award from San Sebastián
The 2025 San Sebastián Film Festival is set to be a memorable event, with one of its undoubted highlights being the Donostia Award for actress and producer Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence will be honoured for her outstanding contribution to cinema, joining the esteemed ranks of previous recipients such as Pedro Almodóvar, Cate Blanchett, and Javier Bardem. The Donostia Award is the highest honour at the San Sebastián Film Festival, often referred to as the biggest movie event in the Spanish-speaking world. Lawrence will be receiving the award for her role in the movie 'Die My Love', a film she also produced via her Excellent Cadaver production label. In this powerful drama, Lawrence plays a mother who experiences a mental breakdown after postpartum depression. Her performance has been praised by critics, with Owen Glieberman of Variety describing it as 'explosive but emotionally reined in'. 'Die My Love' is one of the biggest titles announced for the 2025 San Sebastián Film Festival. The movie, which was the subject of one of the biggest deals at this year's Cannes, stars Lawrence alongside Robert Pattinson, LaKeith Stanfield, Nick Nolte, and Sissy Spacek. The U.S. theatrical commitment for the film is for a roll-out of a minimum 1,500 screens over 45 days. Major international markets that have acquired 'Die My Love' include Latin America, Germany, the U.K. and Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand. The gala ceremony for Lawrence's Donostia Award will be before a screening of Lynne Ramsay's 'Die My Love'. The 2025 San Sebastián Film Festival runs from Sept. 19 to Sept. 27. Lawrence will attend the festival on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025. In addition to Lawrence, the 2025 Donostia Awards will also honour prominent personalities including Esther García, a leading Spanish film producer. The caliber of the Donostia Award, as the biggest honorary award in the Spanish-speaking world, is not dented by Lawrence's receipt of the award. The award continues to represent the pinnacle of cinematic achievement, and Lawrence's recognition is a testament to her talent and dedication to her craft.
