Jenna Ortega's Tough Shoot on "Hurry Up Tomorrow": A Transformative Journey

Stepping out of her paranormal comedy-drama role in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Jenna Ortega delved into uncharted waters with the psychological thriller, Hurry Up Tomorrow. Sharing her experiences during the film's premiere in New York City, Ortega confessed, "I was going through a real rough patch during the shoot. It felt like a perfect fit with the vibe of the production."

Interviewed by People Magazine, the Wednesday actress spoke candidly about her struggle and connection with the film. Jenna, who shares executive producer credits on the project, also discussed collaborating with Abel Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd, in his first leading film role.

"Working with an artist as inspiring and meaningful as Abel was truly comforting and reassuring," Ortega shared. "Feeling seen was an incredible experience that proved to be incredibly beneficial."

Based on the synopsis, Hurry Up Tomorrow serves as a feature-length companion to Tesfaye's sixth album of the same name. The movie portrays Tesfaye as a troubled musician grappling with insomnia, eventually embarking on a life-changing odyssey with an enigmatic stranger who questions his very essence.

In addition to Ortega and Tesfaye, Hurry Up Tomorrow boasts an impressive cast including Barry Keoghan. Directed by Trey Edward Shults, the film is slated for release on May 16, 2025. The production team includes a powerhouse of industry veterans, with Abel Tesfaye, Reza Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss as producers, and Trey Edward Shults, Jenna Ortega, Michael Rapino, and others as executive producers.

The psychological thriller's score is composed by Tesfaye himself and Daniel Lopatin, while the cinematography is handled by Chayse Irvin. Hurry Up Tomorrow offers a captivating exploration of themes like self-discovery, psychological introspection, sin, repentance, and growth, with a focus on a confrontational yet healing journey featuring an Otherworldly presence named Anima. This character, inspired by Carl Jung's concept of the unconscious feminine side of the male protagonist, aids the protagonist in facing his repressed feelings of self-destruction hidden within his song lyrics. While Anima's intense presence contrasts with the more comforting, superficial support offered by Tesfaye's manager, Lee, this dichotomy serves as a driving force behind the protagonist's transformation.
