Jane de Leon expresses heartbreak over Jerrold Tarog's absence in Darna TV series
Actress Jane de Leon tearfully confessed her disappointment when she learned that Jerrold Tarog wouldn't be directing the upcoming TV series version of the iconic Filipino superhero, Darna. Tarog had initially been attached to the movie remake of Darna, but the project was eventually shelved.
At a media conference hosted by Dreamscape Entertainment on February 5, De Leon voiced her affection for Tarog, director of critically acclaimed films such as Heneral Luna and Goyo.
"Man, I love Jerrold. I seriously cried when I found out, and I totally get it because the Darna movie was supposed to premiere this year," she shared, adding that Tarog had other commitments preventing him from taking on the show.
Despite Tarog's absence, De Leon remained grateful for the opportunity he gave her when she was first cast as Darna in 2019 after a string of auditions. "I'd always ask him, 'Why me, Director? What did I have that made you choose me?' And he'd always say, just trust me, trust the management's decision."
De Leon described Tarog as her "brother" and expressed appreciation for his kindness. "I can confide in him about anything, whether it's personal matters, work, or anything else. I am incredibly thankful to have met Jerrold Tarog," she said.
ABS-CBN has remained quiet about Tarog's replacement for the TV series, leaving fans in anticipation of who will take the reins. The original movie movie project is still on hold indefinitely[1].
A potential contender for the director's chair is Chito S. Roño, who expressed his desire to reimagine Darna in a more gritty and realistic light[2]. However, it remains uncertain whether he will actually replace Tarog in the upcoming TV series.
Meanwhile, De Leon continues to appear in FPJ's Ang Probinsyano, where she plays Police Captain Natalia "Lia" Mante alongside Coco Martin.
