The small screen is set to welcome a new British crime drama next year, as Channel 4 announces the adaptation of Helene Tursten's short story collections, "An Elderly Lady Is Up To No Good" and "An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed." Titled Maud, the six-part series stars the renowned Glenn Close as the titular character, Maud Oldcastle.

Maud Oldcastle, a brusque, cantankerous, and ruthless older woman with a tortured past, has spent much of her life caring for her sister. Now determined to break free and claim a long-overdue second act, Maud finds herself facing challenges from a suspicious detective and a society that favours youth. In her quest to protect her freedom, Maud may resort to extreme measures, including killing if necessary.

The series, produced by Playground for Sony Pictures Television, is written by playwrights Nina Raine and Moses Raine, known for their sharp, witty, and insightful writing. The show is being filmed in London this year, with Glenn Close expressing her excitement about the role, calling Maud Oldcastle a character unlike any she has played before.

In "An Elderly Lady Is Up To No Good," first published in 2018, Maud is 88 years old and is not shy about committing crime. The original stories were written in Swedish before being translated into English.

Glenn Close is honoured to be a part of the stellar team working on the series, which is included in Channel 4's best dramas guide. With its dark, sharp, and character-focused narrative, Maud promises to be a gripping addition to Channel 4's lineup.

Stay tuned for more updates on Maud as it moves from Sweden to the UK and prepares to air on Channel 4 next year.
