"Actress Emma Stone undergoes hair transformation for her character in the upcoming film 'Bugonia' by shaving her head"
In a poignant and personal move, actress Emma Stone shaved her head for her role in the upcoming film "Bugonia." This bold transformation was deeply connected to her mother's experience with breast cancer, as Stone's character undergoes a similar change in the movie.
During the filming of a pivotal scene where her character is forcibly shaved in a stolen car, Stone reflected on her mother's hair loss during cancer treatment, viewing her mother's experience as an act of bravery. She acknowledged this emotional connection by saying, "She actually did something brave. I'm just shaving my head."
Stone's mother, Krista Stone, did not undergo breast cancer treatment, but she was reportedly "jealous" of her daughter's transformation, highlighting the personal significance and complexity behind this choice.
The transformation was not just a physical change for the role but carried emotional weight tied to Stone's family history. Friends like Jennifer Lawrence expressed concern over Stone's commitment to the drastic change, underscoring how rare such dedication is among actors today.
"Bugonia," directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, also features themes of captivity and intense psychological moments. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on October 31.
Despite not being able to debut the bald look publicly, Stone found the experience freeing. She revealed that her first shower after shaving her head was "amazing." However, she was disappointed that she couldn't go out with her bald look. To keep her transformation a secret, Stone sported wigs at the New York Film Festival in October 2024.
The filming of "Bugonia" also involved scenes of Stone's character being kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists, played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis. Stone has mentioned that she enjoyed the transformation she underwent for "Bugonia" and intends to remember the experience.
