Actress Anne Hathaway expresses apprehension about being identified by her birth name.

In a jaw-dropping revelation, Anne Hathaway has admitted to feeling uneasy when people call her by her given name. The actress who rose to fame in The Devil Wears Prada shared her unusual sentiment during an interview on The Tonight with Jimmy Fallon show in 2021.

Hathaway, now 42, confessed that she found the name "Anne" rather unnerving, despite it being globally recognized as her moniker. It all started when she landed her first commercial gig at the tender age of 14, for which she had to obtain her SAG card. At that time, she requested they list her name as "Anne Hathaway." She never imagined, however, that this would be her identity for years to come.

During the interview, the Academy Award-winning actress admitted that hearing her name sent shivers down her spine because it reminded her of potential confrontations. "The only person who calls me Anne is my mother, and only when she's extremely upset with me," Hathaway explained. "So every time someone in public calls my name, I fear they'll scold me like my mother would!"

On movie sets, Hathaway shared that her coworkers shy away from using her given name, finding it awkward. The actress prefers to be called "Annie," which feels more appropriate to her.

Now, Anne is busy working on her latest project, Verity, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel. Regardless of her feelings about her name, fans will undoubtedly continue to call her by the name that made her a household name.

Anne Hathaway, when reminiscing about the past, recalls asking for her stage name to be listed as "Annie" during her first commercial gig at the age of 14. Despite being globally recognized as "Anne," she reveals that her coworkers often call her by the nickname "Annie" to avoid potential awkwardness. In the world of entertainment and celebrities, it seems that Hathaway's preference for "Annie" may slowly become a more familiar name among fans of her work.
