Actress Anne Hathaway, famed for her roles in The Devil Wears Prada and Ocean's 8, recently joined the ranks of high-profile figures investing in SailGP.

Actress Anne Hathaway, best known for her role in The Devil Wears Prada, invests in SailGP sailing team.

Anne Hathaway, renowned for her roles in films like "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Ocean's 8," has joined a consortium to purchase a stake in the Italian sailing team participating in SailGP. The consortium is headed by Assia Grazioli Venier, co-founder of Muse Capital and the youngest person to serve on the board of Juventus.

Hathaway's investment follows similarly significant investments from footballer Kylian Mbappe for the France team and former Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel for the Germany team. The group led by Grazioli Venier has acquired the Red Bull Italy SailGP Team, joining actress Miriam Leone, entrepreneur Alexander Gilkes, and sailing legend Jimmy Spithill.

Spithill, who retired from sailing during last year's America's Cup, will take on the role of CEO for Italy. In a statement, Hathaway emphasized the convergence of innovation, athletic excellence, and a commitment to inclusive leadership that the new team embodies. She described the opportunity as "meaningful" and expressed excitement about the project's combination of tradition and vision.

The investment signals SailGP's growing commercial potential, further boosted by major partnerships with companies like Rolex, Deutsche Bank, and Red Bull. The high-profile ownership groups and sponsors reflect the league's promise as a premier, technology-driven event with global appeal.

SailGP, often compared to Formula 1 on water, is aiming to captivate the general sports fan's attention, with critics suggesting that understanding sailing is necessary for full enjoyment of the sport. However, the league has managed to attract substantial interest, demonstrated by its successful partnerships and high-profile investments.

Grazioli-Venier, founder of Muse Capital, expressed her mission to catalyze Italy's next phase in sailing. She views SailGP as a sport with immense commercial potential for global growth and impact, a potential that the ownership group aims to realize through strategic leadership and entrepreneurial capital.

Anne Hathaway, similar to celebrities such as Kylian Mbappe and Sebastian Vettel, has invested in sports, specifically the Italian sailing team participating in SailGP. Hathaway's interest in SailGP embodies a fusion of entertainment and sports, as she describes the project's combination of tradition and vision as "meaningful".
