Anita Kupsch, a renowned figure in German entertainment, passed away on Thursday at the age of 85. Her husband, Klaus-Detlef Krahn, confirmed the news to the German Press Agency.

Beyond her iconic role as Gabi Köhler in the long-running ARD evening series 'Praxis Bülowbogen' (1987-1996), Kupsch had a prolific career spanning over six decades.

Kupsch's career began in the 1960s, and she quickly made a name for herself in international films such as 'Tunnel 28' (1962), directed by Robert Siodmak. She also starred as Biggi in the German series 'Okay S.I.R.', marking one of her memorable early television roles.

Throughout her career, Kupsch featured in nearly 100 film and TV productions, including popular German crime series 'Tatort' episodes and the 2017 movie 'Die Spezialisten'. She even led her own ZDF comedy show called 'Anitas Welt', showcasing her versatility and strong screen presence.

Apart from on-screen roles, Kupsch was a distinguished voice actress. She dubbed for stars like Goldie Hawn in 'Reisen mit Anita', Liza Minnelli in 'Rent-a-Cop', and the character Joan Landor in the anime 'Captain Future'.

Kupsch received prestigious accolades such as a Bambi Award, two Goldener Vorhang awards, and the BZ-Kulturpreis. She was also voted favourite actress during the 2013-2014 season by audiences at Essen’s Theater im Rathaus.

Kupsch was the mother of actress Daniela Lohmeyer. She was married three times, including to journalist Henno Lohmeyer (with whom she had her daughter), French production manager François Chevreuil, and interior designer Klaus-Detlef Krahn, who cared for her in her later years as she battled dementia.

Kupsch, born in Berlin in 1940, learned the profession of a makeup artist but began her acting career in the 1960s. She celebrated several stage successes, including "Golden Girls" and "Männer und andere Irrtümer".

Towards the end of her life, Kupsch was in a care facility in Berlin. Despite her state, according to Klaus-Detlef Krahn, her passing was a relief.

Kupsch's extensive body of work across diverse mediums and genres, from drama and comedy to voice acting, firmly establishes her as a significant figure in German entertainment history beyond just her iconic role in 'Praxis Bülowbogen'.

Celebrities in the German entertainment industry mourned the passing of Anita Kupsch, a prolific actress known for her roles in film, television, and theater. Beyond her iconic role as Gabi Köhler, Kupsch also voiced for several international stars, further cementing her place among German celebrities.
