Rajinikanth's Coolie Takes the Box Office by Storm

Rajinikanth, a pillar of the film industry, is set to make a triumphant return to the big screen with his upcoming film, Coolie. The movie, directed by Lokesh, stars a star-studded cast including Sathyaraj, Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Nimmaupendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan.

Coolie is expected to take an explosive opening of more than Rs 100 crore at the box office. Despite a clash with Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani's Hindi action thriller War 2, Coolie is expected to have a strong opening. This is due in part to the thunderous response at the advance bookings.

Shruti Haasan, who also stars in the film, is Kamal Haasan's daughter. Kamal Haasan, along with Mohanlal and Rishab Shetty, have congratulated Rajinikanth on his 50-year career in the Indian film industry. Rishab Shetty, the star of Kantara, praised Rajinikanth's humility, discipline, and unshakable passion.

Rajinikanth's debut film, Apoorva Raagangal, was released on August 15, 1975. On August 14, 2025, Coolie will hit theatres, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career.

The film Coolie is set to join the ranks of Rajinikanth's highest-grossing films. According to global box office collections, the top five highest-grossing Rajinikanth films are:

1. 2.0 (2018) – With a colossal worldwide box office earning of Rs 712 crore, 2.0 remains Rajinikanth's highest-grosser.
2. Jailer (2023) – Earning around Rs 507.8 crore globally, Jailer stands as one of Rajinikanth's biggest blockbusters and the second highest-grossing film for him.
3. Coolie (2025) – With a worldwide collection crossing Rs 400 crore in just a few days, Coolie is on track to become Rajinikanth’s third highest-grossing film. It also stands out as his highest-grossing Hindi dubbed film post-COVID era.
4. Kabali (2016) – Grossing over Rs 295 crore worldwide, Kabali remains a major blockbuster and one of the top Tamil films of its year.
5. Vettaiyan (2024) – Collected more than Rs 250 crore worldwide, Vettaiyan is noted for a strong opening week.

While earlier blockbusters like Baashha (1995) and Annaamalai (1992) were huge commercial successes, precise comparative gross collections are less referenced today compared to these recent high-grossers. Rajinikanth's appeal is strongly felt in Tamil Nadu and across India, especially in Hindi dubbed versions recently.

Ayan Mukerji is the director of War 2, the sixth film in the YRF Spy Universe, which also promises to be a major box office draw. As we await the release of these two highly anticipated films, the Indian film industry eagerly looks forward to celebrating Rajinikanth's continued success.
