Actor Willem Dafoe to receive recognition at the Sarajevo Film Festival
The Sarajevo Film Festival, the largest film event in Southeast Europe, has announced that acclaimed actor Willem Dafoe will be honoured with the festival's highest distinction, the Heart of Sarajevo award. This prestigious honour recognises Dafoe's exceptional contribution to cinema.
Dafoe, known for his complex, emotional, and unforgettable characters, will be returning to the Sarajevo Film Festival after 25 years. His masterclass during the festival will provide insights into his craft and career, sharing his experience and reflections on art with young talents, film professionals, and the festival audience.
The Sarajevo Film Festival, which will take place from August 15 to August 22 this year, is hosting Dafoe for its 31st edition. The actor, who has starred in over 100 films during his career, is a four-time Academy Award nominee and has received multiple Independent Spirit Awards and prestigious international honours.
His notable Oscar-nominated roles include performances in At Eternity’s Gate, Platoon, Shadow of the Vampire, and The Florida Project, and he has also received Golden Globe nominations for several of these films plus Poor Things. Dafoe's upcoming masterclass is part of his contribution to the art of film recognised by the Sarajevo Film Festival.
Jovan Marjanovic, director of the Sarajevo Film Festival, made a statement about Dafoe, praising his enduring influence and status as a true master of acting across a wide range of cinematic styles and genres. Last year, actor Meg Ryan was awarded the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo.
