Actor Ty Burrell from Modern Family discusses his family's departure from Los Angeles immediately following the show's conclusion, likening their initial relocation to a form of costume play.
On August 3, 2022, Ty Burrell shared his experiences of life in Salt Lake City since moving there after the end of "Modern Family". In an interview with People magazine, Burrell, who played Phil Dunphy in the beloved TV show, described his new home as "spectacular" and "lovely".
Burrell, 57, moved from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife, Holly Burrell, and their daughters, Frances and Greta, in 2020. Initially, the move felt like cosplay to him and his family, but they have since come to genuinely appreciate the outdoorsy lifestyle that Salt Lake City offers.
"I have no regrets about moving here," Burrell admitted, adding that the move has allowed him to spend more quality time with his family and pursue voiceover work.
Meanwhile, Ariel Winter, who played Alex Dunphy on Modern Family, also left Los Angeles. Last year, she revealed her reasons for the move, stating that she was initially nervous about leaving the city but believed that the move to Tennessee had opened up her world.
Winter, who is currently living in Tennessee, moved as a part of a season of change, healing, and growth. Like Burrell, she is continuing her acting career in her new location to avoid the emotional toll and negative experiences she faced in Los Angeles, particularly the body-shaming she endured.
Chrissy Metz from "This Is Us" also moved from Los Angeles to Nashville, seeking a quieter life after her show ended. These moves reflect a trend among some actors to trade Hollywood's high-profile lifestyle for more privacy, family focus, and tranquility in other cities after their major TV roles conclude.
The article, written by Leyla Mohammed for BuzzFeed, highlights the new beginnings of these actors and their pursuit of a more peaceful life outside the spotlight. It's clear that Burrell and Winter are loving their new lives, with Burrell stating that he is living his best life since "Modern Family" ended.
