Actor Tom Cruise evades a significant query concerning 'Mission: Impossible' project.
Tom Cruise Leaves the Door Open for More Mission: Impossible Films
It's still uncertain what the future holds for the "Mission: Impossible" series, according to Tom Cruise. The legendary actor spilled the beans about the making of "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning" at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14th.
During a Q&A session, Cruise was pressed on whether the upcoming film is truly the last in the series. The 62-year-old Hollywood titan shied away from giving a definitive answer. "Let's let the film speak for itself tonight," he said. "This is a culmination of over 30 years and I think it deserves to be enjoyed."
Instead of confirming or denying rumors, Cruise remained evasive, saying, "We've had a blast making this, and I just want you all to enjoy it and appreciate the culmination of this moment."
Cruise, who’s been the face of the franchise since its 1996 debut, played Ethan Hunt. Reflecting on the first film, Cruise shared that it was not only his debut in the "Mission: Impossible" series but also his first production. "It holds a special place in my heart," he said, adding, "It was a dream come true to be able to do this after all these years."
Despite not confirming the series' end, there's no official word on future "Mission: Impossible" films beyond "The Final Reckoning," set to hit theaters on May 23, 2025. Cruise is currently focusing on other projects, like the long-awaited "Top Gun: Maverick." Although the "Mission: Impossible" franchise has been a box office success, and film series often continue indefinitely, no concrete plans for new installments have been announced.
Recent strikes by SAG-AFTRA and delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have disrupted the production schedule for "The Final Reckoning," but these issues don't necessarily rule out future films in the series. For now, fans should embrace "The Final Reckoning" as the completion of this chapter in the "Mission: Impossible" saga. Reviews so far praise the film's action sequences and demonstrate why it could serve as a fitting farewell to the series.
The "Mission: Impossible" series, with Tom Cruise leading the franchise, has not yet closed its doors to further films. Despite not confirming any future projects, Cruise's affection for the world of movies-and-tv entertainment suggests that PTI (potential future) films could be on the horizon for us and global viewers.
