Actor Sylvester Stallone expresses astonishment about receiving the Kennedy Center honor, stating it remains incomprehensible to him.
Sylvester Stallone, the renowned actor famed for his iconic roles in the 'Rocky' films and the forthcoming 'Tulsa King,' has been named as one of the 2025 Kennedy Center honorees. This prestigious recognition comes despite some controversy surrounding the selection process, with reports suggesting that potential honorees were turned down by former President Donald Trump due to being 'too woke.'
Stallone, who is currently writing a book titled 'How Rocky Happened: 1969 to the Oscars,' expressed his shock and disbelief about receiving the Kennedy Center honor. In an interview with Digital, he emphasized that he never planned for or expected this accolade.
Donald Trump, who is the chairman of the Kennedy Center, personally greenlit each honoree for this year's ceremony. Trump stated that he was about 98% involved in the selection process, and he acknowledged that he had a few 'wokesters' among the honorees. However, Stallone was not among those deemed too progressive for the award.
The Kennedy Center honor ceremony will take place in December, and Stallone will join country legend George Strait, rock band KISS, English actor Michael Crawford, and iconic singer Gloria Gaynor as this year's honorees. Interestingly, Tom Cruise was also offered the honor but declined due to scheduling conflicts.
Stallone has been praised for his latest role in 'Tulsa King,' which he believes is the closest to showing his true self. He compared the pressure of maintaining high-quality seasons for 'Tulsa King' to the pressure of topping previous 'Rocky' films. Stallone emphasized the importance of a great team for success in both productions.
As 'Tulsa King' season 3 premieres on Sunday, September 21, on Paramount+, fans can look forward to seeing more of Stallone's acclaimed performance. The Kennedy Center honor is a testament to his enduring influence and contribution to the entertainment industry.
