Actor Rupert Everett alleges dismissal from the production of 'Emily in Paris'
In the upcoming fifth season of the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris, fans will notice some changes amongst the cast. One of the most significant absences will be Thalia Besson, who played Genevieve, a character who formed a bond with Gabriel and worked in Emily's office.
Rupert Everett, who made his debut as Italian fashion designer Giorgio Barbieri in season 4, will also not be returning. Everett initially claimed he was "fired" from the show, expressing disappointment that he was not contacted again and that his character was dropped. However, a source close to the production disputed his claim, stating that Everett was only ever contracted for a guest role and that the storyline for his character was complete.
Everett later clarified that he was never actually fired, explaining that his earlier comments were misunderstood due to language issues while speaking in Italian at a festival. He confirmed in a statement to The Independent that the reports were "a little lost in translation".
Netflix has not issued an official comment on this matter. Us Weekly has reached out to the streaming giant for comment regarding Everett's firing.
In a positive note, Darren Star, the creator of Emily in Paris, hinted at the possible return of Camille Razat's character in season 5, but the extent of her appearance is unclear.
The latest season of Emily in Paris introduces Eugenio Franceschini as Marcello, Emily's new love interest in Rome. This move to Rome expands the universe of the show and explores cultural differences between French and Italians, according to Star.
Several other familiar faces will also be missing from season 5. Kate Walsh, who played Emily's boss from Chicago, Madeline, will not return. Charles Martins, who portrayed an Emily love interest, will also be absent.
Star has suggested that characters can come in and out of the series, but they remain part of the world of the show. He believes that this approach allows for a more dynamic and engaging viewing experience.
Despite the departures, fans can look forward to more adventures in the fashion-filled world of Emily in Paris when season 5 premieres.
