In a world of mythology and brutal warriors, the God of War adaptation is making its way to Amazon. Here's a rundown of the latest news on this highly-anticipated project. Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Battlestar Galactica, has been confirmed as the new showrunner for the series. In March, Amazon ordered two seasons of the show, with Moore at the helm. However, there has been no release date announced yet, as the script is still being written. The series is set to follow the retired God of War, Kratos, as he embarks on a journey to spread his wife's ashes from the highest peak in the land, accompanied by his estranged son Atreus. The original God of War games featured the voice of Terrence C. Carson as the brutal warrior Kratos, but in the rebooted 2018 game and its sequel God of War: Ragnarok, Christopher Judge took over the role. Christopher Judge has hinted several times that he'd love to play Kratos in live-action, but there have been conflicting reports about his involvement. In March 2023, Judge criticized rumors that Dave Bautista was in talks to play the part, and more recently, Judge dismissed reports that he is in talks to play the live-action Kratos on social media. The adaptation has faced some changes in creative direction, leading to the departure of original showrunner Rafe Judkins. Sony Pictures and Amazon MGM studios are now rebooting the project, but no further details have been shared yet. Filming is scheduled to begin in March 2026 in Vancouver, Canada, but a specific date for the series' release is still unknown. Meanwhile, in a separate development, a number of songs from the Donkey Kong Bananza soundtrack are now available to stream via Nintendo Music. As we wait for more updates on the God of War live-action adaptation, fans can keep their eyes peeled for any new developments. In the meantime, Judge's performance as Kratos in the rebooted games has certainly left fans eager to see what he could bring to the live-action version.
