Reimagined and Updated

Warning: This piece discusses major plot points from Season 2, Episode 2 of "The Last of Us," so beware if you haven't watched it yet!

Still reeling from Sunday's gut-wrenching "The Last of Us" episode that turned the series on its head? You're not the only one shedding tears!

Joel Miller, played by Pedro Pascal, met his untimely end in a confrontation with Abby, vindictive daughter of the man Joel killed. But don't think you've seen the last of Joel, as Craig Mazin, executive producer and creator, spilled the beans to Entertainment Weekly that Joel will indeed make an appearance in future episodes, reappearing through flashbacks.

"If we manage to pull it off right, you'll feel Joel's presence everywhere," Mazin assured the publication.

Even as the TV screen went black for Joel, Pascal's career is far from over. Keep an eye out for him this summer, as he graces celluloid in several upcoming films.

First up on the docket is the rom-com "Materialists," slated for a June 13 release. National treasure Pascal teams up with Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans in this Celine Song-directed romp, where a young matchmaker in Manhattan becomes embroiled in a love triangle between her imperfect ex-lover and a seemingly perfect match.

Right on the heels of "Materialists" comes "Eddington," an Ari Aster flick that digs deep into the heartache brewing in a small New Mexico town during the Covid-19 pandemic. Pascal stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Austin Butler, Emma Stone, and a slew of other big names, in a gripping tale focused on a tense showdown between the mayor (Pascal) and sheriff (Phoenix). Catch it when it hits theaters on July 18.

With hardly any time to catch a breath, Pascal dons the role of Reed Richards (a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic) in Marvel's "Fantastic Four: First Steps," premiering July 25. Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach join Pascal in a tentpole movie fest, as the Fantastic Four unite to protect Earth from extraterrestrial threats: the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) and Galactus (Ralph Ineson).

Come 2024, Pascal joins forces with Robert Downey Jr., playing the dark and menacing Doctor Doom in "Avengers: Doomsday," a star-studded sequel within the Avengers franchise. Other notable celebrities jumping on board include Sir Patrick Stewart, Florence Pugh, Chris Hemsworth, and over 20 other famous faces from the Marvel Universe.

Next year brings even more Marvel action, as Pascal brings the "Mandalorian" franchise to the big screen for the first time. Titled "The Mandalorian & Grogu," this film continues the story from the Disney+ series, reuniting Pascal with Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White.

So there you have it—Pedro Pascal's upcoming roles have the industry buzzing. Even if Abby snatched Pascal's heart on "The Last of Us," it looks like the acting world can't seem to get enough of this talented star. Tears aside.

Despite Joel Miller's demise in the second episode of "The Last of Us," executive producer Craig Mazin confirmed that Joel will make a return in future episodes through flashbacks, furthering fans' anticipation for the continuation of the series.

As Joel's presence continues on the small screen, Pedro Pascal's career unfolds in the world of entertainment, with his upcoming roles in movies and TV creating an uproar in the industry.

This summer, movie-goers can catch Pascal in the rom-com "Materialists," followed by "Eddington" in July, alongside stars like Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone. Both films are set to deliver compelling narratives and showcase Pascal's acting prowess.

Beyond film, Pascal has been confirmed to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) in "Fantastic Four: First Steps" and to portray Doctor Doom alongside Robert Downey Jr. in the 2024 film "Avengers: Doomsday."

In 2023, Pascal's fans can look forward to the big-screen adaptation of the "Mandalorian" franchise with the release of "The Mandalorian & Grogu."
